Judith’s Story
My experience with Gianna Care
I wish to share my story and my experience with Gianna Care. It started when I found out that I was pregnant at the start of lockdown. I had three children of my own and a stepdaughter. My husband wasn’t working at the time due to struggling to come to terms with the loss of his mother. I’m a psychiatric nurse by trade and was so excited to start my university course again to complete my degree but no one could prepare me for finding out that I was pregnant again.
I googled 'abortions in Ireland' because quite frankly I felt that was my only option.

Gianna Care came up at the top and the phone number was right there, for non-judgemental advice through their helpline. I figured rather than suffer alone I could just speak to someone I didn’t know and who was impartial. It’s safe to say that the conversation I had changed so much for me.
“They made me realise that abortion was not my only option.”
They were human and so kind, I can’t explain it. I went from calling a stranger out of sheer panic and fear to having someone who I spoke to about everything in life with such ease. I have always said the world works in funny ways but this is by far the best thing to come out of a scary uncertain and anxious time for me.
Gianna Care have gone above and beyond for myself and my family in so many ways.

I felt sad in the beginning, crying until I couldn’t anymore because I was alone. I had my husband but it’s not the same. Now I’m happy, excited even, for this new part of our journey and I’ve not had to worry about a thing because of Gianna Care and the ladies I’ve had the pleasure of meeting have changed my life. They’ve given me someone to talk to whenever I need it and I’ve needed it more than ever the last few months even if I didn’t realise it.
